Step by step guide on how to establish a level with levelling Equipment

Here is a general step-by-step guide to establishing a level using levelling equipment:

  1. Set up your levelling equipment on a tripod or other stable platform in a level location. Make sure that the bubble on the levelling device is centered and that the tripod is stable and level.
  2. Place a levelling staff or rod at your first reference point. This should be a fixed point that you can easily measure from, such as a known benchmark or the corner of a building.
  3. Sight through the levelling instrument’s eyepiece and adjust the tripod so that the bubble is centered and the crosshairs are aligned with the reference point on the levelling staff.
  4. Record the reading from the levelling instrument and the reference point. This will be your starting elevation.
  5. Move the levelling staff to your next reference point, making sure to keep it vertical and at the same height as before.
  6. Sight through the eyepiece and adjust the tripod as necessary to center the bubble and align the crosshairs with the reference point on the levelling staff.
  7. Record the reading from the levelling instrument and the reference point. This will be the elevation at the second reference point.
  8. Repeat this process at each reference point until you have established a level line between all of your reference points.
  9. Use the recorded elevations to determine the difference in elevation between each reference point and create a map or other visual representation of the level line.
