The Farmer’s Legacy: The Tale of Two Wives-Novel By Amaefula Izuchukwu

In Umuaka village, mornings were sacred. Smoke
already curled from distant kitchens, carrying the smell
of smoldering firewood. Somewhere, a woman sang an
old folk tune, soft and steady, while grinding maize on a
stone slab.
Obinna, the farmer, was already awake. His body, tall
and broad like the iroko tree, bent slightly with the
weight of years spent tilling the stubborn soil. His hands
were calloused, his feet hardened from walking barefoot
across ridges and furrows. Yet in his eyes burned the
quiet fire of a man who owned his land, his goats, his
barns, and his household.
But it was his household that set tongues wagging in the
village.

Description

The Farmer’s Legacy: The Tale of Two Wives-Novel By Amaefula Izuchukwu

In a quiet farming village, lived Obinna, a farmer who
took two wives—Adaeze, the dutiful and traditional
woman, and Nneoma, the younger wife with modern
ideas. While the community expected them to live
under the same roof and follow the customs of shared
womanhood, the two women chose a different path.
Each wife demanded her own house, her own farm, and
her own life with the man they both loved.
This decision shook the village. Elders whispered that
Obinna had broken tradition, neighbours mocked his
household, and the children bore the weight of divided
loyalty. Yet beneath the struggle lay a question: must
love and marriage always bow to tradition, or could
they redefine family and community?
